Little Free Libraries opening across Roanoke County


ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Little Free Libraries are opening up across Roanoke County from July 25 through August 1.

The small book exchange has 36,000 locations around the world in 70 countries from Iceland to Tasmania. 10 million books are shared in Little Free Libraries per year on average.

Roanoke County and Roanoke County Parks and Recreation will hold ribbon cuttings for three new locations:

  • Garst Mill Park, 2699 Willowlawn Street, Thursday, July 25
  • Walrond Park, 6824 Walrond Drive, Tuesday, July 30
  • Green Hill Park, 2500 Green Hill Park Road in Salem, Thursday, August 1

Little Free Libraries has themes based on their location or literary references. Garst Mill’s theme will feature flower paintings. Walrond Park will have a Dr. Seuss “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” motif. Green Hill Park features kite flying.

All themes were painted by local schools.
