One dead in Danville crash

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — A Danville woman is dead following a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer this morning, police say.

According to Danville Police, a 1997 Honda Accord driven by Mary Elizabeth McDonald, age 24 of Danville, was traveling south in the 500 block of Kentuck Road, when her sedan crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. McDonald’s sedan hit a tractor-trailer traveling in the northbound lanes. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 8:20 a.m.

“Investigators are working to determine what may have caused the sedan to leave its lane of travel.  Based on the information we know at this time, neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been contributing factors,” said Danville Police Department’s Public Information Officer Lt. Richard Chivvi.

There were no other injuries. Kentuck Road between Halifx and Wilkerson re-opened around 1 p.m.
