Inmate captured after walking off work detail in Roanoke County

An inmate deputies say walked away from a Roanoke County Sheriff’s Department work detail Wednesday morning has been captured.

According to officials, at approximately 11:30 Wednesday morning an inmate walked off the Sheriffs Office inmate work crew which was working in the 5200 block of Hollins Road. Residents in the area were asked to shelter in place.

Police identified the inmate as 34-year-old David Adam McFall. Police said he is currently serving time for armed robbery.

At the time of his escape, he was not armed or when he was apprehended, police said.

At around 1:45 he was taken into custody near the intersection of Pennsylvania and Elmcrest Drive, just inside the Roanoke city limits.

Roanoke county police, Roanoke city police, and the Roanoke county sheriff’s office conducted the search.
