I-81 slope repairs to begin in Montgomery County

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) – A one mile stretch of Interstate 81 southbound in Montgomery County will see likely delays due to slope repairs being made between mile-markers 126 and 127.

Slope repairs will be made during daytime hours starting Sunday, August 25. Shoulder closures and lane shifts will be in place on the three lane section of I-81 southbound. Lane widths will be reduced from 12 feet to 11 feet.

Crews will also perform nighttime paving between 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. the following day to pave the inside shoulder and install one mile of barrier wall in this same area between Sunday, August 25 through Tuesday, August 27.

Crews will then mark pavement between Tuesday, September 3 through Thursday, September 5. Work will begin at 8 p.m. each evening and will last into the following morning.
