Hit-and-Run suspect caught on camera

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A driver was caught on camera hitting a vehicle on Cobbs Street then leaving the scene.

#HitandRun: The LPD needs your assistance identifying a suspect and vehicle in a hit and run. The attached video shows a White Chevy Suburban (at 10 seconds and 1 minute 22 seconds) striking a parked vehicle on Cobbs St. and then fleeing. The vehicle also was involved in a hit and run of an occupied vehicle a short time later at Oakley Ave. and Memorial Ave. The vehicle should have damage to the passenger’s side rear bumper area from the first hit and run as well as driver’s side front tire and door area from the second hit and run. There is also a piece of the black plastic step trim which was located at the second hit and run.The possible partial tag is 5809 or 5080. There may be a letter “Y” in the tag. Lynchburg Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver of the Chevy Suburban.

Authorities say the SUV also hit an occupied car, not long after the first incident, on Oakley and Memorial Avenue.

The Chevy should have damage to the passenger’s side rear bumper from the first incident, and the driver’s side front tire and door from the second incident. A piece of black plastic step trim was also found on the scene of the second hit and run.

Police believe the suspect vehicle has a partial tag of either 5809 or 5080, and there may be a letter “Y” in the tag.

The driver is described as a black man with shorter hair.

Anyone with possible information is asked to call the Traffic Safety Unit at (434)-455-6047.
