Heat wave continues

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – August has proven to be a very hot month with 14 out of 21 days peaking at or above 90 degrees. Over the past five days Roanoke Regional had temperature readings well above the normal 86 degree mark.

Factoring in the heat index and we have been pushing the century mark nearly every afternoon. With temperatures that hot and heat indexes that high we need to take the appropriate precautions.

It is always a good idea to stay out of the heat as much as possible but if you do work outside please obey some of the simple rules that will keep you safe.

As far as the forecast is concerned look for the heat to continue Thursday. Good news is that a break from the heat is expected to arrive Thursday night into Friday in the form of a cold front. Rainy and stormy weather will accompany the front, but behind the rain will be much cooler air for the weekend. Until then, stay safe and if you do notice that you are feeling uncomfortable in the heat…take a break.

Just a few helpful hints to help you beat the heat.
