ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Students age 16 and older who attend William Byrd High School will have the chance to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Friday.
On Friday, April 23, students with parent permission will receive the Pfizer vaccine, which is approved for their age group.
A spokesperson for Roanoke County Public Schools says the district wants to expand vaccination efforts to other high schools in the district.
“It’s just where could we do this first, so this is the first, but not the last,” said Chuck Lionberger, Director of Community Relations for Roanoke County Public Schools. “And so we’re starting the process of vaccinations and where could we, again this is kind of a last minute opportunity, and just where could we do this quickly, and so we were able to do so at Byrd.”
Parents were sent a letter about the chance for students to get vaccinated so they could preregister their children and sign consent forms.
