WATCH: Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts’ director discusses local pandemic response

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Dr. Cynthia Morrow, the director of the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts, held a Zoom briefing Tuesday morning to share the latest coronavirus data, as well as information about local testing and vaccination efforts.

This online briefing comes after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 3,659 new COVID-19 cases, 131 new virus-related hospitalizations, and 29 new virus-related deaths around the Commonwealth as of Tuesday, Sept. 14.

The VDH says 142 of those new cases, one of those new hospitalizations, and one of those new deaths are from the following localities in the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts:

  • Alleghany County: Seven new cases
  • Botetourt County: 20 new cases
  • Covington: Three new cases
  • Craig County: Three new cases
  • Roanoke City: 33 new cases
  • Roanoke County: 52 new cases and one new hospitalization
  • Salem: 24 new cases and one new death

In addition, the health districts say they will start offering free, drive-thru COVID-19 testing sites within the week:

  • Salem Civic Center Parking Lot A from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, and Tuesday, Sept. 21
  • Dabney S. Lancaster Community College from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16
  • Fincastle Baptist Church from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20

Meanwhile, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are offering first-dose COVID-19 vaccination opportunities in the coming weeks at mobile clinics, which are listed below:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Craig County Health Department at 161 Main Street in New Castle (PfizerModerna, and J&J)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at Comfort Suites at Ridgewood Farm at 2898 Keagy Road in Salem (Pfizer and J&J)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Main Street Missionary Baptist Church at 920 Main Street in Clifton Forge (Pfizer and J&J)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Love’s Truck Stop Clinic at 9104 Winterberry Avenue in Covington (Pfizer and J&J)
  • Thursday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alleghany County/Covington Health Department at 321 East Beech Street in Covington (PfizerModerna, and J&J)
  • Thursday, Sept. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Gainsboro Library at 15 Patton Avenue NW in Roanoke (Pfizer and Moderna)
  • Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Henry Street Music Festival at Elmwood Park at 706 South Jefferson Street in Roanoke (Pfizer and J&J)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Craig County Health Department at 161 Main Street in New Castle (PfizerModerna, and J&J)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at Melrose Library at 2502 Melrose Avenue NW in Roanoke (Pfizer and Moderna)
  • Thursday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alleghany County/Covington Health Department at 321 East Beech Street in Covington (PfizerModerna, and J&J)
  • Thursday, Sept. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roanoke City Health Department at 1502 Williamson Road NE in Roanoke (PfizerModerna, and J&J)
  • Saturday, Sept. 25 at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home vaccination clinic at 1002 Moorman Avenue NW in Roanoke (Pfizer and J&J)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Craig County Health Department at 161 Main Street in New Castle (PfizerModerna, and J&J)
