Dr. Morrow shares update on COVID-19 efforts in the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Dr. Cynthia Morrow, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts’ director, shared information on the latest developments in the local pandemic response during a Zoom briefing Tuesday morning.

This online briefing comes after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 3,487 new COVID-19 cases; 132 new virus-related hospitalizations, the largest single-day hospitalization spike since mid-March; and 32 new virus-related deaths around the Commonwealth as of Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Meanwhile, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are offering first-dose COVID-19 vaccination opportunities in the coming weeks at mobile clinics, which are listed below:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 31 at Hill Street Baptist Church at 111 Madison Avenue NW in Roanoke (Pfizer and J&J)
  • Tuesday, Aug. 31 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lucy Addison Middle School at 1220 5th Street NW in Roanoke (Pfizer)
  • Thursday, Sept. 2 at Precision Fabrics at 323 West Virginia Avenue in Vinton (Pfizer and Moderna)
  • Thursday, Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Alleghany County/Covington Health Department at 321 East Beech Street in Covington (Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J)
