WATCH: Dr. Morrow provides coronavirus update for Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Dr. Cynthia Morrow — the health director of the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts — held a Zoom briefing Tuesday morning to share an update on the local pandemic response as coronavirus case numbers continue to climb across the Commonwealth.

This online briefing comes after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 1,403 new COVID-19 cases — the largest single-day increase in cases since April 17 — along with 47 new virus-related hospitalizations and two new virus-related deaths around the Commonwealth as of Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The VDH says more than 40 of those new cases, as well as one of those new hospitalizations, are from the following localities in the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts:

  • Alleghany County: Five new cases
  • Botetourt County: Four new cases
  • Craig County: Two new cases
  • Roanoke City: 15 new cases and one new hospitalization
  • Roanoke County: 16 new cases
  • Salem: Three new cases

Meanwhile, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are offering first-dose COVID-19 vaccination opportunities in the coming weeks at mobile clinics, which are listed below:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Sweet Union Baptist Church at 521 Madison Avenue NW in Roanoke (Pfizer)
  • Wednesday, Aug. 4 at the Vinton Community Center at 820 East Washington Avenue in Vinton (Moderna)
  • Wednesday, Aug. 4 at the Brambleton Center at 3738 Brambleton Avenue SW in Roanoke (Pfizer)
  • Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Pilgrim Baptist Church at 1415 8th Street NW in Roanoke (Pfizer)
  • Thursday, Aug. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roanoke City Health Department at 1502 Williamson Road NE in Roanoke (Pfizer)
  • Friday, Aug. 6 at Mt. Zion AME at 2128 Melrose Avenue NW in Roanoke (Pfizer)
