WATCH: Dr. Bissell shares coronavirus, vaccination update for New River Health District

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — With just a few days left until Christmas, the New River Health District’s director, Dr. Noelle Bissell, shared the latest information about the coronavirus pandemic and vaccines being distributed around the region on Monday afternoon.

This remote news conference comes after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 10,308 new COVID-19 cases and 53 new virus-related deaths, but also 103 less virus-related hospitalizations around the Commonwealth between Friday, Dec. 17 and Monday, Dec. 20.

Of those numbers, the VDH says 170 new COVID-19 cases, one new hospitalization, and one new death are from the following localities within the New River Health District:

  • Floyd County: 22 new cases
  • Giles County: 21 new cases
  • Montgomery County: 86 new cases and one new hospitalization
  • Pulaski County: 25 new cases
  • Radford: 16 new cases and one new death
