WATCH: Dr. Bissell discusses COVID response within the New River Health District

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The director of the New River Health District, Dr. Noelle Bissell, provided an update Tuesday afternoon about the COVID-19 pandemic and local vaccination efforts.

This online briefing comes after the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 1,586 new COVID-19 cases and 25 new virus-related deaths around the Commonwealth, but also a decrease of 241 virus-related hospitalizations as of Tuesday, Nov. 23.

Of those numbers, the VDH says about 30 new COVID-19 cases, 11 new hospitalizations, and one new death are from the following localities within the New River Health District:

  • Floyd County: Six new cases
  • Giles County: Six new cases
  • Montgomery County: 14 new cases, one new hospitalization, and one new death
  • Pulaski County: Six new cases and 10 new hospitalizations

However, since Monday, Nov. 22, the VDH reported two less cases in Radford.
