Virginia health officials include 2,357 new coronavirus cases, 46 new deaths in Friday update

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported a total of 902,938 coronavirus cases and 13,391 virus-related deaths as of Friday, which includes 2,357 new confirmed and probable cases and 46 new confirmed and probable deaths around the Commonwealth.

Virginia health officials confirmed 672,844 cases and 11,276 deaths are related to the virus as of Friday, Oct. 15. However, 230,094 cases and 2,115 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

Meanwhile, the department says the seven-day testing positivity rate has stayed at 7.5 percent over the past 24 hours.

According to VDH’s Friday count, more than 143,000 cases have been reported from localities in southwest and central Virginia.

Health officials say they have received 37,767 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Friday, which is 72 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Thursday.
