Vinton offers variety of holiday activities despite cancellation of Thursday’s Christmas parade

Coronavirus

VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — The Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce announced Monday the cancellation of the 2020 Vinton Christmas Parade — which was scheduled for Thursday — due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

“This was a very hard decision and was not decided easily,” said Angie Chewing, Executive Director of the Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce in a statement released on Monday, Nov. 30. “While we were hopeful we could host a parade in 2020, the Board came to the realization that it was necessary to cancel the event considering the Governor’s recent executive order limiting public gatherings and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the corona virus pandemic.”

Despite the Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Director’s decision to cancel the parade, there are still several other activities scheduled throughout the month of December to celebrate the holiday season:

  • Town of Vinton Christmas Tree Lighting
    • Live on Facebook at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3.

    • Families are encouraged to come to the curb near the edge of their property when they hear sirens coming so Santa can deliver a special Christmas treat for the children. You can check out a map of Santa’s route at the Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce website or the InVinton Facebook page.
    • This event is being sponsored by the Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Vinton, and the Vinton Moose Lodge.
