VDH: Sunday’s new COVID-19 cases reach 761; 14 new virus-related deaths

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia health officials reported 761 new COVID-19 cases and 14 new virus-related deaths as of Sunday morning, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 661,314 confirmed and probable cases and 10,791 confirmed and probable fatalities.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 513,922 cases and 9,073 deaths are related to the virus as of Sunday, May 2. However, 147,392 cases and 1,718 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Sunday count, more than 100,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 1,326 cases, 58 hospitalizations, and 48 deaths
  • Amherst County: 2,907 cases, 120 hospitalizations, and 35 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 1,583 cases, 67 hospitalizations, and 24 deaths
  • Bath County: 270 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Bedford County: 6,275 cases, 217 hospitalizations, and 99 deaths
  • Bland County: 669 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 2,504 cases, 64 hospitalizations, and 36 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 897 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Campbell County: 4,407 cases, 160 hospitalizations, and 84 deaths
  • Carroll County: 2,603 cases, 197 hospitalizations, and 69 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 843 cases, 53 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
  • Covington: 591 cases, 27 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
  • Craig County: 309 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Danville: 4,348 cases, 279 hospitalizations, and 134 deaths
  • Floyd County: 845 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths
  • Franklin County: 3,997 cases, 170 hospitalizations, and 74 deaths
  • Galax: 1,154 cases (-1), 92 hospitalizations, and 51 deaths
  • Giles County: 1,257 cases, 50 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths
  • Grayson County: 1,444 cases, 88 hospitalizations, and 34 deaths
  • Halifax County: 2,782 cases, 78 hospitalizations, and 77 deaths
  • Henry County: 4,498 cases, 343 hospitalizations, and 121 deaths
  • Highland County: 108 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
  • Lexington: 1,171 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths
  • Lynchburg: 7,625 cases, 322 hospitalizations, and 146 deaths
  • Martinsville: 1,583 cases, 154 hospitalizations, and 76 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 9,292 cases, 179 hospitalizations, and 91 deaths
  • Nelson County: 887 cases, 39 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
  • Patrick County: 1,339 cases, 103 hospitalizations, and 43 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 5,493 cases, 237 hospitalizations, and 78 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 2,612 cases, 122 hospitalizations, and 61 deaths
  • Radford: 2,112 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
  • Roanoke City: 8,377 cases, 243 hospitalizations, and 190 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 8,139 cases, 169 hospitalizations, and 138 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 1,513 cases, 46 hospitalizations, and 46 deaths
  • Salem: 2,134 cases, 69 hospitalizations, and 47 deaths
  • Wythe County: 2,604 cases, 149 hospitalizations, and 78 deaths

Since Saturday, May 1, the VDH reported the following significant rises in cases of at least 10 or more: Bedford County has 10 new cases. All other localities reporting new cases in the region have less than 10 new cases reported.

VDH has confirmed that with the 14 new virus-related deaths in the Commonwealth, only one has been reported in our region – that, being in Grayson County with one new virus-related death reported.

The department has received 28,518 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Sunday, which is 32 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Saturday.

Of these newly-reported hospitalizations from Sunday, Bedford County has one, Carroll County has two, Galax has one, Grayson County has one, Henry County has one, Lynchburg has two and Wythe County has two.
