VDH: Saturday’s new COVID-19 cases at 1,477; 91 new virus-related deaths

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — As of Saturday morning, Virginia health officials reported 1,477 new COVID-19 cases and 91 new virus-related deaths, bringing the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 584,537 confirmed and probable cases and 9,519 confirmed and probable fatalities.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 460,273 cases and 8,090 deaths are related to the virus as of Saturday, March 6. However, 124,264 cases and 1,429 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Saturday count, more than 89,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 1,252 cases, 54 hospitalizations, and 47 deaths
  • Amherst County: 2,712 cases, 79 hospitalizations, and 34 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 1,425 cases, 51 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Bath County: 246 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
  • Bedford County: 5,835 cases, 155 hospitalizations (-1), and 76 deaths
  • Bland County: 622 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 2,262 cases, 52 hospitalizations, and 29 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 846 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Campbell County: 4,053 cases, 93 hospitalizations, and 64 deaths
  • Carroll County: 2,139 cases, 152 hospitalizations, and 65 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 754 cases, 40 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Covington: 551 cases, 22 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
  • Craig County: 246 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Danville: 4,381 cases, 240 hospitalizations, and 112 deaths
  • Floyd County: 750 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Franklin County: 3,736 cases, 129 hospitalizations, and 60 deaths
  • Galax: 1,000 cases, 75 hospitalizations, and 50 deaths
  • Giles County: 1,091 cases, 35 hospitalizations, and 16 deaths
  • Grayson County: 1,135 cases, 72 hospitalizations, and 34 deaths
  • Halifax County: 2,485 cases, 64 hospitalizations, and 65 deaths
  • Henry County: 4,237 cases, 289 hospitalizations, and 117 deaths
  • Highland County: 97 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
  • Lexington: 1,125 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths
  • Lynchburg: 6,945 cases, 216 hospitalizations, and 133 deaths
  • Martinsville: 1,512 cases, 128 hospitalizations, and 66 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 8,046 cases, 151 hospitalizations, and 86 deaths
  • Nelson County: 810 cases, 33 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Patrick County: 1,225 cases, 93 hospitalizations, and 37 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 4,769 cases (-26), 165 hospitalizations (-3), and 69 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 2,331 cases, 105 hospitalizations, and 55 deaths
  • Radford: 1,903 cases, 35 hospitalizations, and 17 deaths
  • Roanoke City: 7,622 cases, 201 hospitalizations, and 162 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 7,435 cases, 138 hospitalizations, and 131 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 1,309 cases, 41 hospitalizations, and 40 deaths
  • Salem: 1,872 cases, 58 hospitalizations, and 42 deaths
  • Wythe County: 2,051 cases, 116 hospitalizations, and 66 deaths

Since Friday, March 5, the VDH reported the following cases of 10 more more in our area: Amherst County has 16 new cases, Botetourt County and Carroll County both have 10 new cases each, Campbell County has 15 new cases, Danville has 40 new cases, Lynchburg has 14 new cases, Montgomery County has 43 new cases, Nelson County has 24 new cases, Patrick County has 12 new cases, Roanoke City has 19 new cases, and Roanoke County has 30 new cases.

In addition, of the 91 new virus-related deaths reported on Saturday, the department says the following are from our area: Amherst County has one new death, Bath County has one new death, Bedford County has one new death, Bland County has one new death, Campbell County has one new death, Carroll County has one new death, Craig County has one new death, Floyd County has one new death, Franklin County has two new deaths, Galax has one new death, Giles County has one new death, Halifax County has one new death, Henry County has two new deaths, Martinsville has one new death, Patrick County has one new death, Roanoke City has two new deaths, Roanoke County has nine new deaths and Rockbridge County has one new death.

Health officials say they have received 24,637 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Saturday, which is 123 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Friday.

Of these hospitalizations from Saturday, one is from Amherst County, one is from Appomattox County, four are from Campbell County, one is from Charlotte County, three are from Danville, one is from Franklin County, seven are from Lynchburg, one is from Montgomery County, eight are from Roanoke City, four are from Roanoke County and two are from Salem.

The following are adjustments from Friday’s totals:
