RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia health officials reported 734 new COVID-19 cases and four new virus-related deaths as of Monday morning, bringing the total coronavirus count around the Commonwealth up to 107,421 confirmed and probable diagnoses and 2,385 confirmed and probable fatalities.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 103,016 cases and 2,268 deaths are related to the virus as of Monday, Aug. 17. However, 4,405 cases and 117 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Monday update, more than 8,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:
- Alleghany County: 60 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
- Amherst County: 217 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Appomattox County: 103 cases and 7 hospitalizations
- Bath County: 4 cases
- Bedford County: 418 cases, 20 hospitalizations, and 8 deaths
- Bland County: 37 cases and 1 hospitalization
- Botetourt County: 223 cases, 17 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
- Buena Vista: 65 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Campbell County: 253 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Carroll County: 344 cases, 31 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
- Charlotte County: 58 cases and 4 hospitalizations
- Covington: 13 cases
- Craig County: 19 cases and 1 hospitalization
- Danville: 477 cases, 50 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
- Floyd County: 114 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
- Franklin County: 182 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Galax: 354 cases, 38 hospitalizations, and 27 deaths
- Giles County: 33 cases and 2 hospitalizations
- Grayson County: 165 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
- Halifax County: 170 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
- Henry County: 672 cases, 73 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
- Highland County: 6 cases
- Lexington: 37 cases and 1 hospitalization
- Lynchburg: 735 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
- Martinsville: 241 cases, 38 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Montgomery County: 332 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Nelson County: 70 cases and 2 hospitalizations
- Patrick County: 176 cases, 36 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
- Pittsylvania County: 57 cases, 32 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
- Pulaski County: 91 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Radford: 68 cases and 3 hospitalizations
- Roanoke City: 1,082 cases, 31 hospitalizations, and 15 deaths
- Roanoke County: 522 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
- Rockbridge County: 80 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
- Salem: 170 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Wythe County: 127 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
The department has reportedly received 8,767 records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations across Virginia as of Monday.
