VDH reports 449 new COVID-19 cases, 13 new virus-related deaths as of Monday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia health officials reported a total of 146,593 COVID-19 cases and 3,172 virus-related deaths as of Monday morning, including 449 new confirmed and probable diagnoses and 13 new confirmed and probable fatalities around the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 139,144 cases and 2,962 deaths are related to the virus as of Monday, Sept. 28. However, 7,449 cases and 210 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Monday update, more than 15,800 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 79 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Amherst County: 398 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 216 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Bath County: 9 cases
  • Bedford County: 769 cases, 40 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
  • Bland County: 64 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 302 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 83 cases, 4 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Campbell County: 453 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Carroll County: 502 cases, 42 hospitalizations, and 24 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 107 cases and 6 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 32 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Craig County: 31 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 880 cases, 85 hospitalizations, and 27 deaths
  • Floyd County: 203 cases, 11 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Franklin County: 343 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Galax: 418 cases, 41 hospitalizations, and 30 deaths
  • Giles County: 90 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Grayson County: 320 cases, 26 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
  • Halifax County: 351 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Henry County: 1,065 cases, 118 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths
  • Highland County: 7 cases
  • Lexington: 86 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Lynchburg: 1,408 cases, 41 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
  • Martinsville: 383 cases, 61 hospitalizations, and 17 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 1,943 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Nelson County: 104 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Patrick County: 276 cases, 52 hospitalizations, and 25 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 1,002 cases, 55 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 236 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Radford: 740 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Roanoke City: 1,716 cases, 66 hospitalizations, and 27 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 880 cases, 28 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 114 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Salem: 267 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Wythe County: 238 cases, 21 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths

Since Sunday, Sept. 27, VDH reported 12 new cases in Lynchburg, nine in Bedford County, seven in Montgomery County, six in Franklin County, five in Danville, four in Pittsylvania County, three in Campbell County, three in Halifax County, three in Roanoke City, two in Amherst County, two in Carroll County, one in Appomattox County, one in Giles County, one in Lexington, one in Martinsville, and one in Roanoke County.

In addition, the department reported two new virus-related deaths from Henry County on Monday. However, the department also reported one less COVID-19 case from Patrick County and one less case from Rockbridge County between Sunday and Monday.

Health officials say they have received 10,916 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Monday, which is 27 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Sunday. Of those newly-reported hospitalizations on Monday, two are from Henry County, one is from Bedford County, one is from Halifax County, one is from Pittsylvania County, and one is from Rockbridge County.
