VDH: New COVID-19 cases total 1,535; new virus-related deaths climb by 24 in Wednesday update

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 1,535 new coronavirus cases and 24 new virus-related deaths in Wednesday morning’s update, which brings the Commonwealth’s total COVID-19 count up to 960,691 confirmed and probable cases and 14,597 confirmed and probable deaths.

Virginia health officials confirmed 709,796 cases and 12,253 deaths are related to the virus as of Wednesday, Nov. 24. However, 250,895 cases and 2,344 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

Meanwhile, the department says the seven-day testing positivity rate for all types of COVID-19 tests has increased from 6.2 percent to 6.3 percent over the past 24 hours.

According to VDH’s Wednesday tally, more than 156,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia. Increases and decreases in cases for each locality are highlighted:

  • Alleghany County: 2,232 cases, 85 hospitalizations, and 83 deaths (+1)
  • Amherst County: 4,491 cases (+2), 232 hospitalizations, and 61 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 2,492 cases (+3), 123 hospitalizations, and 36 deaths
  • Bath County: 506 cases (+2), 20 hospitalizations, and 15 deaths
  • Bedford County: 10,344 cases (+21), 409 hospitalizations, and 162 deaths
  • Bland County: 1,120 cases (+1), 50 hospitalizations, and 17 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 4,107 cases (+8), 97 hospitalizations, and 55 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 1,411 cases (+7), 33 hospitalizations, and 28 deaths
  • Campbell County: 7,541 cases (+20), 367 hospitalizations (+1), and 146 deaths
  • Carroll County: 4,260 cases (+13), 316 hospitalizations (+2), and 104 deaths (+1)
  • Charlotte County: 1,360 cases (+7), 82 hospitalizations (+3), and 28 deaths
  • Covington: 772 cases, 33 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
  • Craig County: 631 cases (+2), 21 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Danville: 6,447 cases (+12), 370 hospitalizations (+2), and 198 deaths
  • Floyd County: 1,530 cases (+1), 49 hospitalizations, and 31 deaths
  • Franklin County: 6,380 cases (+23), 267 hospitalizations, and 111 deaths
  • Galax: 1,602 cases (+2), 127 hospitalizations, and 64 deaths
  • Giles County: 2,388 cases (+4), 92 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths
  • Grayson County: 2,266 cases (+7), 144 hospitalizations (+1), and 51 deaths
  • Halifax County: 4,096 cases (+5), 182 hospitalizations (+1), and 112 deaths
  • Henry County: 6,974 cases (+8), 457 hospitalizations (+2), and 171 deaths
  • Highland County: 190 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Lexington: 1,618 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 36 deaths
  • Lynchburg: 11,934 cases (-8), 484 hospitalizations (+1), and 195 deaths
  • Martinsville: 2,205 cases (+2), 186 hospitalizations (+1), and 91 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 12,086 cases (+3), 262 hospitalizations (+2), and 114 deaths
  • Nelson County: 1,440 cases, 57 hospitalizations, and 20 deaths
  • Patrick County: 2,259 cases (+3), 137 hospitalizations (+1), and 59 deaths (+1)
  • Pittsylvania County: 8,430 cases (+14), 380 hospitalizations (+5), and 129 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 4,354 cases (+7), 223 hospitalizations (+8), and 93 deaths (+1)
  • Radford: 3,024 cases (+10), 51 hospitalizations (+3), and 35 deaths
  • Roanoke City: 12,718 cases (+24), 326 hospitalizations, and 256 deaths (+1)
  • Roanoke County: 12,466 cases (+34), 270 hospitalizations, and 182 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 2,257 cases (+5), 80 hospitalizations (+1), and 66 deaths (+1)
  • Salem: 3,688 cases, 102 hospitalizations, and 67 deaths
  • Wythe County: 4,739 cases (+14), 265 hospitalizations, and 109 deaths

The department has reportedly received 39,527 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Wednesday, which is 21 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Tuesday.
