VDH: New COVID-19 cases reported at 1,542; eight new virus-related deaths as of Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia health officials reported a total of 623,881 COVID-19 cases and 10,287 virus-related deaths in Saturday morning’s update, including 1,542 new confirmed and probable cases and eight new confirmed and probable fatalities around the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 487,107 cases and 8,634 deaths are related to the virus as of Saturday, April 3. However, 136,774 cases and 1,653 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to the VDH’s Saturday count, more than 95,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 1,273 cases, 58 hospitalizations, and 48 deaths
  • Amherst County: 2,797 cases, 108 hospitalizations, and 33 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 1,483 cases, 62 hospitalizations, and 23 deaths
  • Bath County: 251 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Bedford County: 6,100 cases, 200 hospitalizations, and 99 deaths
  • Bland County: 647 cases, 22 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 2,424 cases, 57 hospitalizations, and 34 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 866 cases (-1), 20 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Campbell County: 4,224 cases, 138 hospitalizations, and 81 deaths
  • Carroll County: 2,308 cases, 163 hospitalizations, and 64 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 800 cases, 45 hospitalizations, and 17 deaths
  • Covington: 575 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
  • Craig County: 274 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Danville: 4,179 cases, 261 hospitalizations, and 123 deaths
  • Floyd County: 803 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 20 deaths
  • Franklin County: 3,863 cases, 145 hospitalizations, and 72 deaths
  • Galax: 1,054 cases (-1), 83 hospitalizations, and 50 deaths
  • Giles County: 1,169 cases, 44 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
  • Grayson County: 1,232 cases, 79 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths
  • Halifax County: 2,692 cases, 72 hospitalizations, and 73 deaths
  • Henry County: 4,397 cases, 314 hospitalizations, and 121 deaths
  • Highland County: 107 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
  • Lexington: 1,152 cases, 22 hospitalizations, and 31 deaths
  • Lynchburg: 7,246 cases, 291 hospitalizations, and 142 deaths
  • Martinsville: 1,554 cases, 140 hospitalizations, and 74 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 8,853 cases, 159 hospitalizations, and 86 deaths
  • Nelson County: 870 cases, 39 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
  • Patrick County: 1,281 cases, 98 hospitalizations, and 41 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 5,339 cases, 221 hospitalizations, and 75 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 2,464 cases, 113 hospitalizations, and 60 deaths
  • Radford: 2,024 cases, 37 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
  • Roanoke City: 8,036 cases, 225 hospitalizations, and 180 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 7,813 cases, 146 hospitalizations, and 125 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 1,451 cases, 44 hospitalizations, and 44 deaths
  • Salem: 1,992 cases, 66 hospitalizations, and 44 deaths
  • Wythe County: 2,372 cases, 127 hospitalizations, and 75 deaths

Since Friday, April 2, the VDH reported the following rises in case of at least 10 or more: Montgomery County has 33 new cases, Roanoke City has 19 new cases and Roanoke County has 10 new cases.

In addition, of the eight new virus-related deaths reported on Saturday, health officials say one of those is from our area – that being from Danville.

The department has reportedly received 26,669 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Saturday, which is 60 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Friday.

Of these newly-reported hospitalizations from Saturday, one is from Carroll County, two are from Danville, two are from Giles, one is from Henry County, two are from Lynchburg, one is from Montgomery County and one is from Roanoke City.

Also, VDH reported the following revisions, as of Saturday.

Total Cases
  • Buena Vista has one-less case
  • Galax has one-less case
