VDH Monday update: 7,081 new COVID-19 cases, 188 new hospitalizations reported from the weekend in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Despite some delays due to online server issues, Virginia health officials reported a total of 741,160 coronavirus cases and 11,675 virus-related deaths Monday afternoon, including 7,081 new confirmed and probable cases and 28 new confirmed and probable deaths from across the Commonwealth since Friday morning.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 567,307 cases and 9,860 deaths are related to the virus as of Monday, Aug. 23. However, 173,853 cases and 1,815 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Monday count, more than 112,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 1,465 cases, 74 hospitalizations, and 50 deaths
  • Amherst County: 3,271 cases149 hospitalizations, and 41 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 1,791 cases79 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths
  • Bath County: 284 cases12 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
  • Bedford County: 7,327 cases287 hospitalizations, and 112 deaths
  • Bland County: 756 cases, 33 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 2,884 cases, 73 hospitalizations, and 38 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 964 cases, 28 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
  • Campbell County: 5,461 cases, 242 hospitalizations, and 110 deaths
  • Carroll County: 2,962 cases237 hospitalizations, and 81 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 951 cases, 64 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths
  • Covington: 637 cases, 33 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Craig County: 383 cases, 18 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths

  • Halifax County: 3,096 cases, 101 hospitalizations, and 80 deaths
  • Henry County: 5,025 cases, 400 hospitalizations, and 125 deaths
  • Highland County: 123 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
  • Lexington: 1,261 cases, 30 hospitalizations, and 33 deaths

  • Pittsylvania County: 6,203 cases, 297 hospitalizations, and 87 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 3,045 cases, 147 hospitalizations, and 70 deaths
  • Radford: 2,400 cases, 42 hospitalizations, and 29 deaths
  • Roanoke City: 9,488 cases, 286 hospitalizations, and 204 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 9,311 cases, 208 hospitalizations, and 150 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 1,655 cases, 60 hospitalizations, and 48 deaths
  • Salem: 2,463 cases, 81 hospitalizations, and 50 deaths
  • Wythe County: 3,193 cases, 187 hospitalizations, and 84 deaths

Since Friday, Aug. 20, the VDH reported the following significant rises in cases of at least 10 or more. Alleghany County has 10 new cases, Amherst County has 36 new cases, Appomattox County has 30 new cases, Bedford County has 65 new cases, Bland County has 14 new cases, Botetourt County has 16 new cases, Buena Vista has 10 new cases, Campbell County has 42 new cases, Carroll County has 40 new cases, Charlotte County has 14 new cases, Danville has 53 new cases, Franklin County has 48 new cases, Galax has 10 new cases, Grayson County has 20 new cases, Halifax County has 29 new cases, Henry County has 51 new cases, Lexington has 13 new cases, Lynchburg has 76 new cases, Martinsville has 19 new cases, Montgomery County has 66 new cases, Nelson County has 21 new cases, Patrick County has 28 new cases, Pittsylvania County has 76 new cases, Pulaski County has 47 new cases, Radford has 21 new cases, Roanoke City has 90 new cases, Roanoke County has 91 new cases, Rockbridge County has 17 new cases, Salem has 27 new cases and Wythe County has 45 new cases.

VDH reported 28 new virus-related deaths in Virginia between Friday and Monday. Of those deaths, one is from Bedford County, one is from Campbell County, one is from Danville and one is from Pittsylvania County.

The department has received 32,858 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Monday, which is 188 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Friday.

Of these newly-reported hospitalizations from Monday, one is from Amherst County, one is from Appomattox County, one is from Bath County, one is from Bedford County, three are from Carroll County, one is from Danville, one is from Floyd County, two are from Franklin County, one is from Grayson County, three are from Halifax County, seven are from Henry County, two are from Lynchburg, one is from Martinsville, two are from Montgomery County, four are from Pittsylvania County, two are from Pulaski County and one is from Roanoke County.
