VDH: 685 new COVID-19 cases; over 11,000 total deaths reported as of Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia health officials reported 685 new COVID-19 cases and 17 new virus-related deaths as of Saturday, which brings the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count up to 669,904 confirmed and probable cases and 11,008 confirmed and probable fatalities.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 521,485 cases and 9,288 deaths are related to the virus as of Saturday, May 15. However, 148,419 cases and 1,720 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

The department has received 29,200 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Saturday, which is 42 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Friday.

Due to site maintenance on VDH’s website, we have not been given statistical information that we can update. When maintenance has been completed, we anticipate being able to update this story with detailed stats on the day’s numbers for each locality.

Note: The title of this article originally said there were more than 11,000 total hospitalizations reported in Virginia as of Saturday, but that was supposed to say more than 11,000 total deaths. That has since been corrected.
