VDH: 1,229 new COVID-19 cases reported in Virginia, 1,099 deaths around the state; 12 new cases in the West Piedmont Health District

UPDATE 6:39 p.m.: The West Piedmont Health District reports 12 news COVID-19 cases since yesterday.

There are six confirmed cases in Henry County, all of which are males, ranging in age from teens to 30’s, 40’s, and 60’s.

There is one confirmed case in Franklin County, a woman in her 50’s.

There are five confirmed cases in Martinsville, four females and one male, ranging in age from teens to 40’s.

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported a total of 34,137 COVID-19 cases and 1,099 virus-related deaths as of Thursday morning, including 1,229 new confirmed and probable diagnoses and 25 new confirmed and probable fatalities around the Commonwealth.

Health officials confirmed 32,428 cases and 1,099 deaths are related to the virus as of Thursday, May 21. However, 1,709 cases and 35 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

VDH’s Thursday update includes more than 1,000 cases from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 9 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Amherst County: 25 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Appomattox County: 25 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Bedford County: 41 cases, 2 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Botetourt County: 31 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 12 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Campbell County: 13 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Carroll County: 64 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Charlotte County: 16 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 3 cases
  • Craig County: 5 cases
  • Danville: 45 cases, 13 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Floyd County: 4 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Franklin County: 30 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Galax: 82 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Giles County: 5 cases
  • Grayson County: 22 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Halifax County: 29 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Henry County: 53 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Highland County: 3 cases
  • Lexington: 6 cases
  • Lynchburg: 75 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Martinsville: 21 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Montgomery County: 67 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Nelson County: 13 cases
  • Patrick County: 12 cases
  • Pittsylvania County: 26 cases, 10 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Pulaski County: 10 cases and 2 hospitalizations
  • Radford: 4 cases
  • Roanoke City: 135 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 8 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 89 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 12 cases
  • Salem: 33 cases and 4 hospitalizations
  • Wythe County: 16 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death

In addition, the department says it has received 4,093 records of confirmed and probable hospitalizations related to the virus as of Thursday.
