ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Stimulus checks have been distributed by the Internal Revenue Service since mid-March. However, some neighbors in Roanoke have not received their check yet, but most should be distributed by Wednesday.
According to the IRS’ website, most of the $1,400 payments are scheduled to be rolled out by check or direct deposit. Many still have questions involving eligibility.
While parents of children who were born in 2020 qualify for the child tax credit, those with children born this year do not, according to the IRS website.
“The third economic impact payment in 2021 will not include an additional amount for these children because the third round of payments is based on information from your 2020 or 2019 tax return. If the child is your dependent in 2021, you may claim a 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit for the child, if you’re eligible for the credit, on your 2021 tax return that you will file in 2022. “IRS.gov
A neighbor who spoke with WFXR News received someone else’s check. Now, she is making an effort to return it.
“I tried to call back because it’s like really important for me you know to get this to this person, because like I said, I know the delay of being able to have this reissued, or them to even straighten out the address issue,” Kenya Harvey explained. “You know it could be like a year later before they actually get another stimulus check.”
She has also posted in a Facebook group searching for the owner, hoping she can bypass the potentially lengthy return and reissuing process.
“A family, friend, At least they could get the message to him to let him know that they got it, and I’m willing to hold it until you know he’s able to come identify himself, you know, to get the stimulus check,” Harvey said.
Harvey plans to continue her efforts until she is able to find the owner.
