ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease, city officials in Roanoke are looking at ways to get people back outside safely.
At last week’s Roanoke City Council meeting, a plan was laid out to reopen Roanoke’s famed Greenways, provided Governor Northam institutes Phase 1 of his plans.
Effective Friday, May 15, Garden City, Lick Run, Mill Mountain, and Tinker Creek Greenways will be back open.
The Roanoke River Greenway is expected to open up on Tuesday, May 19.
Even though the Greenways will reopen as part of Governor Northam’s Phase 1 plan, Roanoke City officials are still urging those planning on using the Greenways to follow, not only general Greenway etiquette, but also to continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing and not gather in groups of ten or more.
The city is also reminding citizens that all parking areas at Greenway trailheads will remain closed.
Wiley Drive will be temporarily closed to vehicles from Wasena to Franklin Road, and between Franklin Road and Crystal Spring Avenue in an effort to continue social distancing practices.
