Pulaski walking, bike trails to reopen Friday

Coronavirus

PULASKI, Va. (WFXR) — Certain outdoor activities in Pulaski will be allowed on a limited basis starting May 1.

Town walking and biking trails will reopen for daily limited access on Friday starting at 8 a.m. Town manager Shawn Utt said it is in an effort to help residents of the town and county deal with restrictions tied to COVID-19.

Pulaski playgrounds, basketball courts and tennis courts will remain shut down to the public. The section of the Dora Trail from the Pulaski Train Depot to Cool Springs will be open to the public. But the rest of the trail is closed because of flooding.

Social distancing is still required when using areas of parks and trails in the town and county. Other restrictions are still in place, including prohibiting groups of 10 people or more.

Utt is urging people to wear masks or face coverings while at the park, but it is not required.

Activities that draw large groups into smaller settings like basketball, softball and baseball games, as well as using playground equipment are still banned until further notice.

There are many recommendations to help prevent spreading COVID-19:

  • Washing your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer
  • Keeping household surfaces clean, including cell phones
  • Avoid touching your mouth, nose, eyes or face
  • Staying home as often as you can
