PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — In order to prevent potential COVID-19 spread and provide as much in-person learning as possible moving into the winter season, Pulaski County Public Schools plans to partner with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to provide a free and voluntary coronavirus testing program for students and staff.

“Through this program, we will be able to identify COVID-19 cases quickly and early, which can help us stop an outbreak before it happens,” Pulaski County Public Schools’ Testing Division Coordinator, Richard Thomas, stated in a letter to the district on Thursday, Oct. 28. “Additionally, we will be able to offer testing for those who have symptoms of COVID-19, even if vaccinated, or who have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19. This will help us keep students and staff in the classroom and able to take part in the school activities they love.”

You can pre-register for the screening/testing program through Primary Health’s platform.

According to school officials, this screening program is entirely consent based, which means that if you no longer want to participate, you can revoke your consent at any time.

The district says the testing will mainly be conducted through self-swabbing and PCR testing then monitored by trained staff. For symptomatic and close-contact testing, students will receive BINAX antigen tests to take home.

You can learn more about the testing program and process in the letter shared on Thursday by Pulaski County Public Schools, which is included below:

If you have any questions about this COVID-19 testing program for Pulaski County students and staff, you are asked to contact Mary Hall at mhall@pcva.us or Richard Thomas at rthomas@pcva.us.
