Number of positive COVID-19 cases at Giles County Schools jumps from 8 to 26 in a single week

GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — In this week’s coronavirus update, Giles County Public Schools reported 26 total student and staff cases, which is more than triple the number reported last week.

As of Thursday, Sept. 2, Giles County school officials reported 26 positive cases from the following schools:

  • Macy McClaughtery Elementary/Middle School: Five student cases
  • Narrows Elementary/Middle School: Three student cases
  • Eastern Elementary/Middle School: One student case
  • Giles High School: 10 student cases and one staff case
  • Narrows High School: Five student cases
  • Giles Technology Center: One student case

Meanwhile, in the school district’s COVID-19 count published on Friday, Aug. 27, there were only eight positive cases at the following schools

  • Macy McClaughtery Elementary/Middle School: One student case
  • Giles High School: Three student cases and one staff case
  • Narrows High School: Two student cases
  • Giles Technology Center: One student case

School officials continue to urge members of the Giles County community to follow proper pandemic practices every day, especially wearing face coverings.

The district also provided information last week with steps to take if you come in close contact with someone that is suspected to have or tests positive for COVID-19.
