Number of confirmed, pending COVID patients in ‘near Southwest Virginia’ climbs to 274

(WFXR) — Over the last two weeks, the number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations around “near Southwest Virginia” continued to rise, going from 207 confirmed and pending patients as of Dec. 3 to 276 patients as of Friday.

This includes patients at Carilion Clinic, Centra, LewisGale, Sovah Health, and the Salem VA Medical Center.

Just between Friday, Dec. 3 and Friday, Dec. 17, local health officials reported 70 more confirmed COVID-19 patients — including 20 new virus patients in the ICU — but one less patient awaiting virus test results.

This news comes as the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 3,457 new coronavirus cases and 28 new virus-related deaths on Friday, Dec. 17, but also 75 less virus-related hospitalizations since Thursday, Dec. 16.
