(WFXR) — In Wednesday’s update, “Near Southwest” Virginian hospitals — including Carilion, Centra, LewisGale, Sovah, and Salem VA facilities — reported a decrease in the total number of confirmed and pending coronavirus patients for the seventh week in a row, dropping from 221 to 205 hospitalizations.

In a week-to-week comparison, the number of hospitalizations at these facilities had been generally increasing for nearly three months due to COVID-19.

However, on Wednesday, Jan. 20, health officials reported a drop in the number of confirmed coronavirus hospitalizations from 450 to 432 for the first time since early November. Then, by Wednesday, Jan. 27, that total sunk by 87 to 345; by Wednesday, Feb. 3, it dropped by 17 to 328; by Wednesday, Feb. 10, it decreased by 56 to 272; by Wednesday, Feb. 17, it lowered by 24 to 248; and by Wednesday, Feb. 24, it dipped by 48 to 200.

Now, as of Wednesday, March 3, the hospitals are reporting 187 confirmed COVID-19 patients, which is 13 patients less than the week before.

In addition, over the course of the week, health officials reported seven less virus patients in the ICU, two less virus patients on ventilators, and three less patients awaiting coronavirus test results.

Meanwhile, as of March 3, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 96 new virus-related hospitalizations around the Commonwealth, but also a record-shattering 383 new virus-related deaths.
