(WFXR) — The total number of confirmed and pending COVID-19 hospitalizations around “near southwest Virginia” — including at Carilion Clinic, Centra, LewisGale, Sovah Health, and the Salem VA Medical Center — declined for the first time in at least two months, dropping from 405 to 371 over the last week.

Since Friday, Sept. 24, local health officials reported 34 less confirmed COVID-19 patients and three less virus patients in the ICU in these hospitals. However, the number of patients who are awaiting virus results stayed the same.

Meanwhile, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 2,552 new COVID-19 cases, 73 new hospitalizations, and 56 new virus-related deaths around the Commonwealth as of Friday, Oct. 1.
