(WFXR) — As of Wednesday morning, “Near Southwest” Virginia’s hospitals — more specifically, Carilion, Centra, LewisGale, Sovah, and Salem VA facilities — reported another decline in the number of confirmed and pending COVID-19 patients, going from 384 to 355 patients in the span of a week.

In a week-to-week comparison, the number of hospitalizations at these facilities had been generally increasing for nearly three months due to COVID-19.

However, on Wednesday, Jan. 20, health officials reported a drop in the number of confirmed coronavirus hospitalizations from 450 to 432 for the first time since early November. Then, by Wednesday, Jan. 27, that total sunk by 87 to 345, and by Wednesday, Feb. 3, it dropped by 17 to 328.

In addition, hospitals reported that the number of ICU patients went down by six, the number of patients on ventilators went down by three, and the number of patients awaiting coronavirus test results went down by 12 since Jan. 27.
