Masks required indoors for Montgomery County students at start of new school year

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Montgomery County School Board voted 4-3 on Tuesday to start off the school year with a universal masking policy for students while indoors.

In addition, Montgomery County Public Schools says staff members need to wear a mask when around students.

This news comes ahead of the first day of the 2021-2022 school year in Montgomery County, which is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 12.

Members of the Montgomery County School Board plan to review local health data and revisit this mask policy at their meeting on Sept. 7.
