SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — Thursday, May 7th is the National Day of Prayer, a day when people from around the country join together in prayer. While normal, in-person gatherings are strictly limited due to COVID-19, one local church is holding a special service in observance.

The CommUNITY Church in Salem, located at 1923 East Main Street, will be holding a drive-in service on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Church pastors, along with community leaders, will be gathered on the roof of the church to reflect on the National Day of Prayer. People in attendance will be asked to remain in their cars in the church’s parking lot. Rooftop speakers will play patriotic music, and every car will receive a small American flag.

Pastor Tom McCracken says prayers in the pandemic are more relevant than ever.
