You can read the statement released by the school district on Thursday below:
Our priority through this COVID-19 pandemic is to provide excellent educational programs and services while maintaining high standards for the health and safety of our students and school community. Out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), Linkhorne Elementary School will shift to remote learning for all students. The building will be closed for students on Friday, August 27, 2021 and Monday, August 30, 2021. The plan is to reopen Tuesday, August 31, 2021, provided we have the necessary staff to ensure the safety and supervision of our students.
VDH stated that Lynchburg City Schools is doing a good job deploying infection control mitigation strategies within Linkhorne Elementary School and it does not appear there is any significant SARS CoV2 transmission within the school itself. The cases we are seeing are the result of community-based transmission.
This decision was not made lightly and we understand that this may be a hardship for some families, however, the health and safety of our students and staff must be taken into account. Principal Lillian Guzlowski has already communicated this shift to remote learning with her LES family and staff. We have shared our plans with the Virginia Department of Health and together we believe this is the right step to take for the health and safety of our students, families, staff, and the community at large at this time.Lynchburg City Schools
