(WFXR) — Those who are eligible for the COVID vaccine booster can receive the shot at Kroger pharmacy locations.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) say that booster doses are given at least six months after completing the two-dose primary series of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID vaccine.
Besides the booster, these locations will also be offering flu shots as well. The CDC and FDA say that eligible individuals can receive the COVID vaccine and flu shot at the same time.
“With the flu season quickly approaching, it is important to remind our population about the importance of getting your flu shot, and your COVID-19 vaccine if not yet vaccinated to help protect against severe illness,” said Chris Koon, division health and wellness lead for Kroger Mid-Atlantic. “Getting both vaccines is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from getting sick with COVID-19 and the flu this fall and winter.”
The CDC says everyone six months and older should get a flu shot because it can help reduce flu illnesses and prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths. According to the CDC, there are different flu vaccines that are approved for use in different groups of people. Health officials say that the flu shot is approved for children as young as six months and for adults 65 years and older, they also recommend it for anyone who is pregnant or anyone with certain chronic health conditions. Doctors say it is best to get the flu shot by the end of October.
At this time there is no COVID booster shot available for Moderna or Johnson & Johnson. However, Johnson & Johnson is looking to get FDA approval for a booster shot.
