(WFXR) — As of Wednesday morning, the hospitals around the “Near Southwest Region” of Virginia — such as Carilion, Centra, LewisGale, Sovah, and Salem VA facilities — reported a total of 450 confirmed COVID-19 patients and 30 patients with pending virus results.

In a week-to-week comparison, the number of hospitalizations at these facilities has been generally increasing due to COVID-19.

For example between Wednesday, Jan. 6, and Wednesday, Jan. 13, health officials reported 30 new confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations, including nine new ICU patients.

However, over the course of the week, the number of patients on ventilators dropped by three while the number of hospitalized patients under investigation also decreased by three.

Meanwhile, as of Jan. 13, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 144 new virus-related hospitalizations around the Commonwealth.
