(WFXR) — Hospitals around the “near southwest” region of Virginia — including Carilion, Centra, Sovah, LewisGale, and Salem VA facilities — reported 305 total hospitalized COVID-19 patients as of Wednesday, as well as 38 patients who are under investigation and currently waiting on results.

In a week-to-week comparison, the number of hospitalizations at these facilities has been generally increasing due to COVID-19.

Between the week of Wednesday, Dec. 9, and Wednesday, Dec. 16, health officials reported 20 new confirmed virus-related hospitalizations — including 13 new ventilator patients –and four new pending hospitalizations from the near southwest region.

However, in that week span, the number of ICU patients stayed the same, which has not been seen in previous weeks’ data.
