Hospitals around ‘Near Southwest Region’ of Virginia report 307 confirmed, pending COVID-19 hospitalizations

(WFXR) — On Wednesday, hospitals around the “near southwest” region of Virginia — including Carilion, Centra, Sovah, and VA facilities — reported a total of 280 hospitalized coronavirus patients, as well as 27 patients under investigation.

In a week-to-week comparison, the number of hospitalizations has been generally increasing due to COVID-19.

For example, between Wednesday, Nov. 25, and Wednesday, Dec. 2, the hospitals listed above reported an increase of 44 hospitalizations, with 11 of those hospitalizations involving ICU patients.

In addition, on Dec. 2, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported 158 new virus-related hospitalizations around the Commonwealth, which is the biggest daily increase in hospitalizations since the start of the pandemic.

As for the near southwest Virginia region, the only anomaly in the data over the last six weeks — which are listed blow — was the week of Nov. 4, where the total hospitalizations dropped by 14 from the previous week.

As of Wednesday, Dec. 2:

  • Total hospitalizations: 280
  • ICU patients: 61
  • Ventilator patients: 30
  • Hospitalized PUIs (patients under investigation awaiting results): 27

As of Wednesday, Nov. 25:

  • Total hospitalizations: 234
  • ICU patients: 49
  • Ventilator patients: 24
  • Hospitalized PUIs (patients under investigation awaiting results): 29

As of Wednesday, Nov. 18:

  • Total hospitalizations: 208
  • ICU patients: 36
  • Ventilator patients: 22
  • Hospitalized PUIs (patients under investigation awaiting results): 26

As of Wednesday, Nov. 11:

  • Total hospitalizations: 203
  • ICU patients: 38
  • Ventilator patients: 18
  • Hospitalized PUIs: 35

As of Wednesday, Nov. 4:

  • Total hospitalizations: 186
  • ICU patients: 40
  • Ventilator patients: 22
  • Hospitalized PUIs: 32

As of Wednesday, Oct. 28:

  • Total hospitalizations: 200
  • ICU patients: 50
  • Ventilator patients: 27
  • Hospitalized PUIs: 46
