ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Hospitality House has not yet built a location in the Roanoke Valley. However, organizers are looking for ways to assist families in need during the pandemic.

“Now more than ever, with COVID restrictions and the increasingly difficult financial situation people are finding themselves in, our mission is so important,” said Terrianne Julian, founder of the Roanoke Hospitality House. “We are finding creative ways to provide support to families while continuing to build support for building a location of our own.”

The organization provides low to no-cost housing to patients traveling for medical treatment. Organizers say as Roanoke continues to grow as a regional health care provider, a housing facility would be a desperately needed resource.

In the past week, Hospitality Houses provided a Pulaski family with a hotel room and meals while a mother of three underwent an amputation at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, in which she was hospitalized for three days. The woman’s husband, who has been unemployed during the pandemic, reached out to the organization looking for options since COVID-19 restrictions prevented the family from staying at the hospital.

“I’m getting more calls like this, and turning people down shouldn’t be our only option,” said Julian. “Roanoke is on the map for medical care, so a Hospitality House is a natural pairing to provide lodging, meals and support.”

Through grants and private donations, nearly $40,000 has been raised for the Roanoke Hospitality House. However, an additional fund has been set up to provide temporary housing for families. To donate, visit roanokehospitalityhouse.com
