Health officials report 8,990 coronavirus cases, 300 deaths in Virginia as of Monday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia health officials confirmed a total of 8,990 COVID-19 cases and 300 virus-related deaths on Monday morning, which is 453 more cases and 23 more deaths than Sunday morning.

According to the Monday, April 20 tally from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), more than 330 of those coronavirus cases come from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 5
  • Amherst County: 10
  • Appomattox County: 7
  • Bedford County: 18
  • Botetourt County: 24
  • Buena Vista: 5
  • Campbell County: 9
  • Carroll County: 3
  • Charlotte County: 8
  • Covington: 1
  • Craig County: 2
  • Danville: 28
  • Floyd County: 1
  • Franklin County: 16
  • Galax: 1
  • Giles County: 4
  • Halifax County: 10
  • Henry County: 10
  • Lexington: 3
  • Lynchburg: 38
  • Montgomery County: 44
  • Nelson County: 5
  • Pittsylvania County: 6
  • Pulaski County: 8
  • Radford: 1
  • Roanoke City: 24
  • Roanoke County: 24
  • Rockbridge County: 5
  • Salem: 6
  • Wythe County: 10

In addition, VDH records confirm at least 56,735 people have been tested for COVID-19 and at least 1,500 people have been hospitalized across the Commonwealth. Those test subjects and hospitalizations are spread among the following local health districts:

  • Alleghany Health District: 488 test results and 12 hospitalizations
  • Central Shenandoah Health District: 1,734 test results and 23 hospitalizations
  • Central Virginia Health District: 1,288 test results and 7 hospitalizations
  • Mount Rogers Health District: 971 test results and 15 hospitalizations
  • New River Health District: 1,249 test results and 8 hospitalizations
  • Piedmont Health District: 765 test results and 15 hospitalizations
  • Pittsylvania-Danville Health District: 564 test results and 17 hospitalizations
  • Roanoke City Health District: 1,830 test results and 4 hospitalizations
  • Southside Health District: 582 test results and 18 hospitalizations
  • Thomas Jefferson Health District: 2,369 test results and 43 hospitalizations
  • West Piedmont Health District: 465 test results and 4 hospitalizations
