Health officials report 687 new COVID-19 cases while total deaths reach 3,276 as of Monday

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia health officials reported a total of 152,557 COVID-19 cases and 3,276 virus-related deaths as of Monday morning, including 687 new confirmed cases and three new confirmed fatalities reported around the Commonwealth.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) confirmed 144,439 cases and 3,063 deaths are related to the virus as of Monday, Oct. 5. However, 8,118 cases and 213 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Monday count, more than 17,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 81 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Amherst County: 428 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 224 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
  • Bath County: 15 cases
  • Bedford County: 846 cases, 45 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Bland County: 64 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 315 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 90 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Campbell County: 485 cases, 16 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Carroll County: 514 cases, 44 hospitalizations, and 24 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 142 cases and 7 hospitalizations
  • Covington: 33 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Craig County: 31 cases and 1 hospitalization
  • Danville: 958 cases, 94 hospitalizations, and 31 deaths
  • Floyd County: 214 cases, 12 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
  • Franklin County: 429 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
  • Galax: 421 cases, 41 hospitalizations, and 30 deaths
  • Giles County: 94 cases and 3 hospitalizations
  • Grayson County: 325 cases, 27 hospitalizations, and 17 deaths
  • Halifax County: 382 cases, 14 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
  • Henry County: 1,107 cases, 121 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths
  • Highland County: 8 cases
  • Lexington: 123 cases, 3 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Lynchburg: 1,552 cases, 42 hospitalizations, and 15 deaths
  • Martinsville: 402 cases, 62 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 2,155 cases, 24 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Nelson County: 110 cases, 5 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Patrick County: 283 cases, 52 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 1,080 cases, 62 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 243 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 5 deaths
  • Radford: 754 cases, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death
  • Roanoke City: 1,914 cases, 75 hospitalizations, and 29 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 959 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 8 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 126 cases, 7 hospitalizations, and 2 deaths
  • Salem: 292 cases, 15 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Wythe County: 263 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths

Since Sunday, Oct. 4, VDH reported 28 new cases in Montgomery County, 22 in Roanoke City, nine in Halifax County, nine in Pittsylvania County, seven in Franklin County, six in Danville, four in Lynchburg, three in Bedford County, three in Carroll County, three in Henry County, three in Roanoke County, three in Rockbridge County, two in Charlotte County, two in Radford, and single new cases in numerous other localities.

In addition, of the three new virus-related deaths reported from around the Commonwealth on Monday, one is from Danville and one is from Martinsville.

The department has received 11,259 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Monday, which is 38 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Sunday. Of the newly-reported hospitalizations from Monday, three are from Danville and one is from Carroll County.
