Health officials confirm 54 new COVID-19 cases; eight new virus-related deaths in Sunday’s update

RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) — On Sunday morning, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reported a total of 678,649 COVID-19 cases and 11,351 virus-related deaths, which includes 54 new confirmed and probable cases and eight new confirmed and probable fatalities from across the Commonwealth.

Virginia health officials confirmed 528,307 cases and 9,582 deaths are related to the virus as of Sunday, June 20. However, 150,342 cases and 1,769 deaths are still reported as “probable.”

According to VDH’s Sunday count, more than 103,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:

  • Alleghany County: 1,371 cases, 64 hospitalizations, and 49 deaths
  • Amherst County: 2,979 cases, 127 hospitalizations, and 40 deaths
  • Appomattox County: 1,621 cases, 72 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths
  • Bath County: 274 cases, 10 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
  • Bedford County: 6,655 cases (-1), 245 hospitalizations, and 108 deaths
  • Bland County: 687 cases, 27 hospitalizations, and 10 deaths
  • Botetourt County: 2,598 cases, 66 hospitalizations, and 38 deaths
  • Buena Vista: 930 cases, 25 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
  • Campbell County: 4,578 cases, 187 hospitalizations, and 87 deaths
  • Carroll County: 2,720 cases (-1), 225 hospitalizations, and 79 deaths
  • Charlotte County: 870 cases, 56 hospitalizations, and 21 deaths
  • Covington: 611 cases, 32 hospitalizations, and 14 deaths
  • Craig County: 322 cases (-1), 18 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
  • Danville: 4,496 cases (-1), 305 hospitalizations, and 141 deaths
  • Floyd County: 885 cases, 31 hospitalizations, and 23 deaths
  • Franklin County: 4,102 cases, 197 hospitalizations, and 80 deaths
  • Galax: 1,173 cases, 95 hospitalizations, and 53 deaths
  • Giles County: 1,323 cases, 51 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
  • Grayson County: 1,508 cases, 101 hospitalizations, and 37 deaths
  • Halifax County: 2,834 cases, 80 hospitalizations, and 78 deaths
  • Henry County: 4,666 cases, 371 hospitalizations, and 124 deaths
  • Highland County: 110 cases, 1 hospitalization, and 1 death
  • Lexington: 1,207 cases, 28 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths
  • Lynchburg: 7,860 cases, 345 hospitalizations, and 156 deaths
  • Martinsville: 1,628 cases, 166 hospitalizations, and 78 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 9,415 cases, 193 hospitalizations, and 96 deaths
  • Nelson County: 893 cases, 41 hospitalizations, and 13 deaths
  • Patrick County: 1,393 cases, 112 hospitalizations, and 43 deaths
  • Pittsylvania County: 5,602 cases, 261 hospitalizations, and 82 deaths
  • Pulaski County: 2,705 cases, 131 hospitalizations, and 62 deaths
  • Radford: 2,176 cases, 40 hospitalizations, and 19 deaths
  • Roanoke City: 8,580 cases (-1), 262 hospitalizations, and 198 deaths
  • Roanoke County: 8,395 cases, 185 hospitalizations, and 147 deaths
  • Rockbridge County: 1,558 cases, 55 hospitalizations, and 48 deaths
  • Salem: 2,214 cases, 73 hospitalizations, and 50 deaths
  • Wythe County: 2,719 cases, 162 hospitalizations, and 81 deaths

Since Saturday, June 19, the VDH reported only minor rises in local cases with no locality reporting an increase of more than five new cases.

VDH reported eight new virus-related deaths in Virginia on Sunday; however, none of those were from our area.

Health officials say they have received 30,317 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Sunday, which is 14 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Saturday; however, there were no new reports of virus-related hospitalizations in our area during Sunday’s update.

VDH reported a few revisions to the previous day’s release. Those revisions are outlined below.

  • Danville reported one less case
  • Roanoke City reported one less case
