Giles County Public Schools sees increase in coronavirus cases over the last week


GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A week after Giles County high schoolers were set to resume hybrid learning and numerous elementary students were ready to double their in-person learning days, the school district reported a slight increase in the number of local coronavirus cases.

According to Giles County Public Schools, there are six positive cases and two presumptive positive cases being reported from the following four schools as of Monday, Nov. 23:

  • Macy McClaugherty Elementary Middle School: One positive staff case
  • Narrows Elementary Middle School: One positive staff case
  • Eastern Elementary Middle School: One positive student case
  • Giles High School: Three positive staff cases and two presumptive positive student cases

Monday’s numbers mark an increase from the five positive cases and one presumptive positive case reported by the school district as of Nov. 13.
