Free online seminar open to help people understand maps of COVID spread

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A professor with the University of Lynchburg is hosting a free online seminar on Thursday evening, July 23 to help people learn how to understand and interpret maps that show the spread of coronavirus.

Maps are a common feature when medical experts present the latest on the virus, and according to David Perault, a professor of environmental sciences and sustainability at the University of Lynchburg, the course is meant to give people practical tools they can take with them and apply to their everyday life.

“It could be something as simple as if you’re looking to travel,” said Perault, “places you might avoid, places that are safe to go, precautions you might take, and any concerns you might have upon returning.”

Anyone interested in sighing up should email Perault at

Space is limited, but he may schedule another session to meet the demand.
