Fralin Biomedical Research Institute helps hunt for omicron variant around Virginia

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The omicron variant of the coronavirus is now officially in all 50 states, leading to a drastic surge in COVID-19 cases right before the holidays.

Researchers across the Commonwealth are busy working to find out how prevalent omicron is in Virginia by analyzing positive coronavirus cases.

On Thursday, Dec. 23, WFXR News’ Amanda Kenney and Hazelmarie Anderson spoke with Dr. Michael Friedlander, executive director for the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, about the major role the institute is playing in the search for the variant.
