PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Numerous educators in Pulaski received their first round of the Moderna vaccine on Monday.
The vaccine distribution was carried out in collaboration with the New River Health District.
Students who attend Critzer Elementary School and Pulaski Elementary School had an “asynchronous instruction” day on Monday, Jan. 11, so approximately 90 teachers and faculty members could be vaccinated.
“We haven’t been able to offer the same type of instruction that we do under ordinary circumstances, so this is a crucial step for us to be able to return to all students coming in five days a week,” said Dr. Kevin Siers, Pulaski County Public Schools’ superintendent.
According to Siers, plans are already underway to give vaccines to educators at other schools in the district by Friday, Jan. 15.
Pulaski County Public Schools shared the following list of other single-day closures scheduled for the rest of the week so faculty and staff can undergo their first round of vaccination against the coronavirus.
- Dublin Elementary School, Riverlawn Elementary School, and Snowville Elementary School will be closed (Code 1, asynchronous instruction) on Tuesday, Jan. 12, before proceeding with their regularly-scheduled remote learning day on Wednesday, Jan. 13, then reopening under their regular schedule on Thursday, Jan. 14.
- Pulaski County High School will have an asynchronous instruction day on Wednesday, but SOL testing will proceed as scheduled for all virtual students. The school will then reopen at its regular time on Thursday.
- Pulaski County Middle School will be closed (Code 1, asynchronous instruction) on Thursday before reopening under its regular schedule on Friday.
