COVID cases in Virginia approaching highs we saw last spring

Coronavirus

(WFXR) — According to Virginia Health Commissioner Dr. Norman Oliver, COVID-19 cases in Virginia are approaching numbers comparable to last spring.

Recent numbers show more than 98 percent of those hospitalized due to COVID-19 have not had the vaccination.

Oliver said almost every COVID-19 case in adults can be prevented with the vaccination.

“I know it’s been a long haul. We’re all tired. We’re frustrated. We’re done with COVID-19. Unfortunately, COVID is not done with us. So I just want to encourage everyone to remember that. Keep doing what needs to be done to fight this disease, and we will get rid of this pandemic by doing so.”

Oliver added 180 million Americans have received the vaccine and serious side effects have been extremely rare.
