Community development block grant funds available to address COVID-19 needs in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Starting Tuesday, applications for the Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act are being accepted.

From Tuesday, Feb. 23 through Monday, March 15, applications will be taken for Round three of program funds in Program Year (PY) 2019/Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021)

Applications are available on the City of Lynchburg’s website or by calling the Grants Administration Office at (434) 455-3916 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by emailing melva.walker@lynchburgva.gov.

All applications must be completed and returned to the Grants Administration Office by 4 p.m. on March 15 to be eligible for funding consideration by Lynchburg City Council.

Public comments on the applications will be received during a City Council Public hearing tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall.

The City will receive $389,143 in Round three funding through the CARES Act from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for PY 22019/FY 2021.

The primary objectives for using the funds are to assist in meeting the emergency needs within the City of Lynchburg related to COVID-19 in order to prevent, prepare for and respond to the virus.
