LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Centra has released its updated COVID-19 numbers for the week on Wednesday.
The hospital says a total of 96 patients are admitted as of Wednesday, Sept. 8. A total of 14 are in ICU, seven are on ventilators, 10 are vaccinated and three are partially vaccinated.
Lynchburg General Hospital has 81 and Southside Community Hospital has 15 cases.
The hospital has seen the number of deaths increase so far in September. As of Wednesday, the hospital confirms 15 deaths so far this month.
They also say they continue to see fluctuations in its COVID-19 numbers.
“Today we have increased to 81. Dominating those numbers are still the unvaccinated. Demographics continue to show a shift to younger population than pre-delta varient waves, so more people in their 40s, 50s, 60s. Also, fewer comorbidities than previously seen.”Centra Health
The hospital says they continue watching their numbers closely as they are seeing significantly higher numbers of testing positivity in the community which could ultimately lead to further admissions.
“If these tests are predominantly in younger individuals (for example, school testing) or screening testing of asymptomatic groups, our hospital census may not be adversely affected,” Centra said. “However, if this is indicative of more general population having high levels of infection, we may see a very significant influx of hospitalized COVID patients over the next several days.”
They say they continue to see challenges with staffing throughout their hospitals with high demands on bed capacity and increasing furloughs of caregivers for the coronavirus.
Elective procedures continue to be cancelled at the hospital. They are continuing to evaluate as needed.
